Cookie Policy

Last updated: June 14, 2026

This Cookie Policy supplements our Privacy Policy and explains the specific cookies, pixels, web beacons, and similar tracking technologies that we and our service providers use on the Essex Software websites, what they do, and how you can control them.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser when you visit a website. They allow the site to remember information about your visit, such as your preferences and certain identifiers, which can make subsequent visits easier and the site more useful to you. We also use related technologies including HTML5 LocalStorage (which functions like a longer-lived cookie) and web beacons (small invisible images embedded in pages or emails that signal when a page is viewed or an email is opened).

Cookies fall into two general categories by lifetime: session cookies, which exist only while your browser is open, and persistent cookies, which remain on your device until they expire or are deleted. We use both.

Categories of cookies we use

Strictly necessary

These cookies are required for our sites to function. They support things like remembering items in your cart through checkout, keeping you signed in to your account area, and enabling the security protections on our forms. You cannot opt out of these and still have a functional site.

Analytics and performance

These cookies and pixels help us understand how visitors find and use our websites so we can improve them. They typically count visits and traffic sources, identify the most and least popular pages, and reveal navigation problems. The information is generally aggregated and not used to identify you personally.

Advertising and measurement

These cookies and pixels are used to measure the performance of our advertising — for example, to attribute a purchase back to the ad campaign that brought you to our site — and to deliver advertising for our products on third-party sites and apps. Some allow advertising platforms to recognize your browser across our site and other sites you visit. See our Privacy Policy for how we use hashed contact information for advertising purposes ("Customer Match").

Specific tools we use

The list below covers the third-party services that set cookies or fire pixels on our websites as of the date above. Links go to each provider's privacy policy and opt-out controls.

Matomo Analytics (self-hosted) First-party web analytics hosted on our own servers as a backup measurement source. No data leaves our infrastructure. Essex Software — controlled by us

Google Ads conversion tracking & Remarketing Measures purchases and other conversions attributable to Google ads; supports remarketing audiences so we can show ads to past visitors. Google LLC — manage at adssettings.google.com

Microsoft Advertising (Bing UET) Measures performance of our advertising on Bing and the Microsoft Audience Network. Microsoft Corporation — opt out at Microsoft ad settings
LinkedIn Insight Tag Measures conversions and audiences from our LinkedIn advertising. LinkedIn Corporation — opt out in your LinkedIn ad preferences

First-party attribution cookies We set cookies named essex_click_ids (90 days) to remember the ad click identifier (such as gclid, msclkid) and UTM parameters that brought you to the site, so we can attribute later purchases back to the original source. Essex Software — clear by deleting cookies for essexsoftware.com in your browser

Web beacons in email

Marketing emails we send may contain web beacons (small invisible images) that signal when the message is opened and when links are clicked. We use this to measure overall campaign performance. You can disable image loading in your email client to block these, and you can opt out of marketing email entirely using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any marketing message.

Our in-browser tools do not upload your files

Several Essex Software web tools process your files entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly and modern browser APIs. These include our PDF compressor, image squeezer, video compressor, PDF signer, PDF redactor, PDF metadata viewer and remover, and bulk archiver. The files themselves never leave your device. We still record anonymous usage telemetry (which tool was used, whether the operation succeeded, file type and size category) so we can improve the tools, but we do not see the file contents.

How to control cookies

You can control cookies in several ways:

  • Browser settings. All major browsers let you block or delete cookies, block third-party cookies specifically, or warn you before accepting one. See your browser's help pages — for example, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. Blocking some cookies may affect site functionality.
  • Provider-specific opt-outs. Each row in the table above includes the link or process for opting out of that particular service.
  • Cross-network opt-outs. The Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) and the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) offer tools to opt out of behavioral advertising across many participating networks at once.
  • Global Privacy Control (GPC). We honor GPC signals from your browser where technically feasible, treating them as an opt-out of "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising for California residents.
  • Direct opt-out. For our advertising audiences (Customer Match), email support@essexsoftware.com and we will remove your contact information from the next upload.

Changes to this notice

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top. We encourage you to review the policy periodically.
