1 Your backup database

The file msgstore.db.crypt15 (or older .crypt14) from the phone's Internal storage/WhatsApp/Databases/ folder (newer phones: Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Databases/). Copy it to this computer first.

How Android WhatsApp recovery actually works

WhatsApp keeps your messages on your phone, and its Android backup is an encrypted database (msgstore.db.crypt15). To read it you need two things off the phone: that database file and the key that unlocks it. This tool does the decryption in your browser — the file and key never leave your computer.

The honest catch: you must have the key. If you set up WhatsApp's end-to-end encrypted backup with a 64-digit key, paste it above. If you used a password only, or you're pulling an older .crypt14, you'll need the key file from the phone, which requires root access. No key, no decryption — and no honest tool can get around that.

Media (photos, voice notes, video) isn't inside the message database on Android — it lives as separate files in the WhatsApp/Media folder — so this recovers the full text of every chat and marks where media was, but doesn't rebuild the images. The text transcript and the PDF export are complete.

Frequently asked questions

Is anything uploaded?

No. Decryption and reading run entirely in your browser via the Web Crypto API. There's no upload step and the page blocks the data from being transmitted. Turn off Wi-Fi after the page loads and it still works.

Where do I find msgstore.db.crypt15?

On the phone, in a file manager: Internal storage/WhatsApp/Databases/ (or Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Databases/ on Android 11+). There may be several dated files — msgstore.db.crypt15 is the latest. Copy it to your computer, then choose it above.

Where's my 64-digit key?

WhatsApp → Settings → Chats → Chat backup → End-to-end encrypted backup. If it's on and you chose "Use encryption key" you saved a 64-character key. If you chose a password, the raw key only exists in the phone's protected storage (root needed).

Can it recover deleted messages?

If the message was still on the phone when that backup was made, yes — it's in the database. A message deleted before the backup won't be there.
